Using a macro meal planner is a great approach to meal planning because of what you can learn from it.  Because macro meal planning isn’t a diet itself, but rather an approach to dieting, it’s very flexible.  And it can help anyone who’s altering their eating habits no matter their diet type or health goals in four big ways (get it?  big?).

1. It Teaches Portion Control

When you’re using a macro meal planner you aren’t cutting any foods out of your diet unless you choose to.  Rather, you’re ensuring your body receives the macronutrients that it needs when it needs them most.  Being mindful of your daily intake of carbs, fats, and proteins, keeps you from getting too much of a good thing (in which case it’s no longer good).

2. It Tracks Multiple Things

When you’re calculating your intake of carbs, fats, and protein, you’re also taking a look at your caloric intake.  Macro meal planning allows you to be mindful not only of your macros but calories too.  This is particularly useful when you’re using a recipe that doesn’t list calories, only macronutrients and micronutrients.  But there’s an equally easy way to avoid that issue, which is using a meal planner service that provides calorie count for you.

3. It Encourages Healthy Eating

Like I said earlier, macro meal planning doesn’t require you to remove any specific foods from your diet.  But if you look online you’re going to find lists of what counts as a carb, fat, and protein.  Some will even break down what’s starchy and what’s not.  And one thing you will never see on there is junk food.  Why?  Because it’s a bunch of empty calories, excess sugars, and harmful preservatives and artificial sweeteners.  It makes no meaningful contributions to your macros, but will make plenty of contributions to your waistline if you’re not careful.

4. It Introduces You to the World of Wellness

Some people start a meal planning service because they know it can save them time and money on groceries.  There’s no intention of losing weight or eating better, it’s just a way of making life a little less hectic.  Yet on every site for meal planning services and every site about meal planning in general you’ll find a wealth of information about other health topics.  This can range from easy exercises to do at home, to why hydration is important, to foods that help manage symptoms of chronic illness.  It’s an absolute treasure trove and you’re sure to get inspired once you dive in.
